Hello. Do these fonts only cover latin characters?

There are a very (very) small handful with other characters like Greek & Cyrillic character sets but most of them have only latin.

There aren't any with full characters sets that include CJK for example, because there are only two of us and we're not familiar enough with those characters to do them justice.

Amazing font pack! I've been getting good value out of this even outside of gamedev for things like music album covers and visualizers for my work. If you do anything at all cyberpunk or sci fi or gothic themed especially there are some absolutely stellar fonts in here!

nica pack! just got one, but where i can get a preview for all the fonts.

We don't currently have a preview tool or anything for them. You can scroll through our fontspace account to see each font in a big list if that helps: https://www.fontspace.com/chequered-ink

What a fantastic Font-Pack for a very very very awesone price.
I create Apps and Games with in-game currencies that are unlockable through gameplay *and* also be bought with real money.
May I use Fonts as purchase item with this in-game currency to be use-able ingame? In this case, we are talking about cosmetics for a riddle game (no media sold directly) but the feature to use it in the Novel Riddle Editor. Just to be sure here, for what I read that's the case. Thanks!
Best, Patrick!

Is there any way you can email us more detail like some kind of video or mock up image of the mechanic you're talking about to make sure we understand it fully? Our email is support@chequered.ink

What format do the fonts(files)  come in.

Some are .ttf some are .otf

Why does ‘Carnival Trash’ font have its ‘D’ character be exactly the same as the ‘O’ character?

(+1)

There is a slight difference between the two - definitely more than "a pixels difference" (see image below) but we appreciate that this may be problematic in your designs. We'll take the feedback on board and update it in a future version.

Just a heads up to anyone who wants to buy this for a video game:

According to the license, you are not allowed to ship the font files with your game. If you want to use them, you have to EMBED the font files into your C/C++ file if it’s compiled. If it’s a scripted language, sorry but you’re out of luck.

I didn’t see this before buying, but luckily my game is in C++ so I can just embed the otf into the binary. Honestly I feel like it’s pretty disingenuous not to state this VERY clearly in the front page, and instead hide it in a license agreement everybody knows no one reads.

(+6)

Just to be clear: You can ship the font files with your game. People have asked us this on numerous occasions and we always say yes! please do!

The terms of the license do say don't redistribute the font files - that's more to prevent people from uploading them to font websites and stuff without our permission.

Anyone who's worried and wants permission in writing can always get in touch with us and we'll be happy to provide it :)

“c. You may use the Product in digital documents and software applications provided that: i. The Product is protected from extraction by the end user so that they may not access the Product on its own outside of your application. ii. Your digital document or application is not designed to serve the same function as the Product, i.e. the document must not allow end-users to use glyphs from the Product for use in their own designs.”

Either change your license or check your lawyer. This very clearly says just leaving the otf file out in the game files as extractable.

(+5)

Since there are only two of us in our team, and we are both on public record tens of times as saying that it's perfectly fine to do this, you can feel free to just go ahead and ship otf/ttf files with your game. And anyone who wants 100% peace of mind / concrete legal evidence can ask us for a signed letter saying so.

I will look into clarifying the wording in the license, there is clearly a balance to be struck to protect both our rights & our user's rights, but we have been letting people ship otf/ttfs with their games for 10 years now so I hope that gives you some trust in us in the mean time.

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for your response, and I didn’t mean to imply ill will from your part. It’s just that legal stuff is scary, and when the actual document you provide people doesn’t say what you say outside the document, things can be even scarier.

If I may suggest something, I think it would be best if you provided a signed PDF saying what you said here, that it is OK to ship the font files with games. I’d do this as a separate (free) product on itch so anyone who’s ever bought a product from you can download it. That’s only a temporary fix, in my opinion. A real fix would be to remove that clause or reword it in a way that actually explicitly allows font files to be shipped.

Thanks for taking your time with this.

EDIT TO ADD: Remember to put the date on the signed document, with a potential clause saying it is valid for any font produced up to this point, no matter the date of purchase. If you ever release a new font, edit the date on the document and publish it again.

Look good but ill have  to wait for a sale.

There's a sale on right now, in case you're still interested :)

Does this support/have plans to support the cyrillic alphabet?
Bought the pack either way because the current kenny deal is very quite much good and even without cyrillics this is very useful.

(+1)

A small handful of the fonts support Cyrillic, such as "Squirk" and "Ninteteen Ninety Three",  we don't add it to every font because there are only two of us and neither of us speak a language which uses Cyrillic characters - so it's a lot more work to make sure it's readable to native speakers & we don't always have the resources to do it. We're always looking to improve the selection of languages we support though so we'll take your feedback on board!

Bought the pack, could we get in trouble for using the ones that are more heavily inspired by things like Kpop Demon Hunters or BOTW or is it safe?

For the very small handful that are inspired by existing brands / products, I would probably avoid using them for anything commercial just to be safe?

That said, they are distinct, different fonts built by us from the ground up. Technically there should be no problem, but you know how these things go.

How many fonts are inspired by other brands? And how can I tell? I would like to avoid using them unknowingly.

Hello! I just purchased and installed these fonts on Kenney's recommendation and discount. Thank you for sharing such a wild number of fonts at such a good price! Do you have any recommendations for a good way to preview the fonts? Dafont and fontspace are good, but I'm wondering if there are ways to filter by style too, or just view them all on one long page.

(+1)

Thanks for grabbing the pack! The pack itself is separated by style, although you would then have to double-click fonts to get a proper look at them. We haven't come up with a better way of sorting or previewing them yet, sorry - after a quick search we found this which might be helpful? FontBase — a Free, Beautiful, and Fast Font Manager

I do appreciate that the pack is sorted a bit already, and thanks for the suggestion!

(+3)

Great job ! I heard about this from Kenney, thank you for the discount

(+3)

That's great! We're glad to be working with Kenney on bringing this to more people :)

I have some questions:

How do you verify someone has bought the license? Do you ask them like in an audit?

Can I buy this pack, but then download them from your DaFont profile and use in commercial use (if present in this pack)?

For future fonts, does the license apply to them too?

(+1)

1. If we needed to check if someone has a license, in the first instance we would just ask nicely to see some proof or something. Often we don't really need to, though. Either we already have an inkling who has it (because this is a very close-knit community) or sometimes people just come and tell us when they're using our stuff anyway! (we love to see our fonts being used)

2. Yes you can. We periodically add all of our new fonts to the pack (the last time we did so was September 4th) so even if you find a newer font on dafont or fontspace, it just means we haven't gotten around to putting it in the pack yet and you can just go ahead and use it.

3. Yes, see above. (Unless we release a font and explicitly state that's it's not for commercial use or something. But this literally only applies to like 3 fonts we've released in the last 10 years,)

Thank you for responding. I've bought even before you responded because the deal is just too good. Great work

(+2)

This is a wonderful package. I don't want to make you all angry by doing something wrong! Above it says "Every commercial font we've ever made until now" but I am seeing fonts on fontspace that were not in my downloaded content (for instance, Spiced Rum Supernova). Am I correct to assume that if it isn't in the pack, it was not included? Thank you for this clarification, nothing but respect for you, I hope it does not appear as if I am looking a gift horse in the mouth, and if it does, I give my humblest apology.

Hiya - all our newest fonts are included in the All Fonts Pack license, although the AFP download itself may not have yet been updated to include them. By all means download those newer fonts from FontSpace or DaFont and use them in the same commercial ways, regardless of when you purchased AFP!
(We generally save the AFP  download updates for several fonts in a row due to our frequent releases of new ones)

Newest fonts we have made that were released since AFP but are still licensed by it: Moustache You; Half Myself; Manic Germanic; Swansong; Blaze of Glory; Spirit Fox; Spiced Rum Supernova; Tiny and Chunky; Punk Metal; The Visitor; Devious Road; Robinson Pleasure; Cynosure; Liquid Crystal Decay; Overthrow Oligarchy; Guardian Angle; Nuchileda; CI GameDev 16px; Tempter; Bees Chubees; Infinitely Grateful; Riot City Revolts!.
